ATTENTION MINNESOTA VETERANS WITH SCHOOL-AGED CHILDREN The Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs has released a new COVID-19 Distance Learning Support Grant. The grant is geared toward families who have been financially impacted by their children's school implementing distance or hybrid learning, or their child's new enrollment (school year 2020-2021) in a private or homeschool option. Effective dates for this grant are August 1, 2020 through June 30, 2021, dependent on availability of funding. Basic grant criteria for eligibility as follows: Applicant must be a Veteran or surviving spouse of a Veteran Have a child who is enrolled in the State of Minnesota in: Grades K-8 or, Grades 9-12 with an IEP (Individual Education Plan); Section 504 plans are not eligible. Children must attend a school that has implemented distance learning, a hybrid program, or be newly enrolled in a private or homeschool option for 2020-2021 school year (after 8-1-2020). Provide evidence that your family has experienced a negative financial impact as defined by one of the following scenarios on or after 8-1-2020, examples: · A parent had to reduce or eliminate work to accommodate the implementation of distance learning or hybrid program for the child. The child was newly enrolled in a daycare setting or similar business to accommodate their parent's employment and to facilitate the school district's distance learning or hybrid program for their child. The parent has newly employed a tutor, nanny, non-parental adult family member, or other similar arrangement to coach, mentor, and implement distance learning or hybrid program for their child. Newly enrolled in homeschool or a private school but was previously (2019-2020 school year) enrolled in a public school district. Applications for this grant must besubmitted througha County Veterans Service Officer (CVSO) or MDVA Field Operations Representative.
