Southwest Asia Theater of Operations Veterans If you have asthma, rhinitis, or sinusitis, please read the following guidance released by the VA regarding new presumptive conditions for expo- sure to particulate matter in SW Asia: Effective August 5, 2021, the VA will begin processing disability claims for asthma, rhinitis and sinusitis on a presumptive basis related to particulate matter in Southwest Asia and other areas. To be eligible, Veterans must meet the following criteria: Diagnosed with chronic asthma, chronic rhinitis, and/or chronic sinusitis (to include rhinosinusitis) within 10 years of separation from their last period of military service; and Served any length of time in the Southwest Asia theater of operations beginning on August 2, 1990, through the present; and/or Afghanistan, Syria, Djibouti, or Uzbekistan on or after September 19, 2001.
